Description
Starboard Touring Starlite 12'6" x 31"
The Starboard Touring Starlite 12'6" x 31" is a rigid board designed for touring, long distance, and challenging outings where glide efficiency, tracking, and stability are essential.
Its 12'6" x 31" shape offers an excellent balance between performance and control. The board maintains its inertia very well, remains efficient over time, and allows for a clean trajectory with few paddle corrections.
Why we love it
Smooth and efficient glide
The relatively low rocker and generous waterline promote excellent speed retention between paddle strokes.
The thin and refined nose cleanly cuts through the water, limits splashes, and maintains a consistent glide in choppy conditions.
Excellent tracking
The longitudinal channel under the hull guides water flow from front to back and significantly improves directional stability.
This design reduces the need for side-to-side paddle changes and enhances efficiency over long distances.
Well-controlled stability
With its 31" width, the Touring maintains a very reassuring platform while remaining performant.
The slightly lowered stance area brings the center of gravity closer to the water and further reinforces the feeling of control, especially when conditions become more technical or when the board is loaded.
A hull designed for touring
The shape incorporates several elements developed by Starboard on its highest-performing boards:
-
thin and raised nose to better handle chop;
-
voluminous rails to control roll;
-
bevels under the rails to improve flow;
-
deep central channel for tracking;
-
flat tail to promote a clean water release.
The whole creates a very balanced board, with a clean and predictable glide.
Designed for carrying gear
The Touring features storage areas with bungee cords, making it easy to carry gear for an extended outing.
The front loading area is lowered to keep the weight lower on the board and limit its impact on stability.
Starlite Construction
The Starlite construction combines stiffness, strength, and controlled weight.
The deck features a 0.6 mm Australian pine layer placed between two outer fiberglass layers. The rails are also reinforced with woven protection designed to better resist impacts and paddle marks.
Compared to the Lite Tech construction, Starlite uses more reinforcements and higher-end materials, giving it a stiffer and more direct feel underfoot, while offering better long-term durability.
On the water
The Touring 12'6" x 31" is quick to get moving and maintains its speed very well once underway.
It remains stable underfoot, predictable in chop, and particularly enjoyable when trying to maintain a consistent pace over several kilometers.
The work done on the hull and tracking is especially noticeable on long outings: the board stays on course and requires few unnecessary corrections.

Our opinion
The Touring Starlite 12'6" x 31" is a very accomplished board for those who primarily seek efficiency over distance.
It combines excellent glide, very clean tracking, and enough stability to remain comfortable as the kilometers add up or when conditions slightly deteriorate.
It's a coherent, technical yet undemanding board, and particularly enjoyable for paddlers who prioritize long outings and glide quality.
