Description

Starboard TwinFin 8'3" x 30" XTEC Carbon
Hard Surf SUP

A fast, playful and responsive surf SUP

The Starboard TwinFin 8'3" x 30" XTEC Carbon is a rigid paddleboard designed for surfing, prioritizing speed, maneuverability and freedom of movement on the wave.

The TwinFin’s unique shape, with its pronounced angle behind the fins, delivers dynamic, agile turns and a smooth, maneuverable glide, ideal for effortlessly pulling off bold rail-to-rail moves.

Its innovative channel-shaped tail optimizes acceleration and makes it easier to regain control of the tail after the most radical slides, ensuring optimal control on every wave.

Whether you’re tackling small, soft waves or more challenging conditions, the TwinFin lets intermediate surfers link tight turns while giving experienced surfers a high-performance, smooth ride.

Key features of the Starboard TwinFin

Speed and glide

The TwinFin’s shape promotes quick acceleration and a smooth glide along the wave. Its rear channel helps reduce drag and maintain momentum through weaker sections, making it easy to link maneuvers while keeping up speed.

Effortless turns and a looser feel

A smoother, more agile glide allows for tight pivots and intuitive slides. The hip and moon tail create a natural pivot point, enabling quick changes of direction and smooth transitions.

Pronounced hip and moon tail

A slight break behind the fins narrows the tail for precise pivots. This geometry lets you engage tighter turns, redirect the board quickly and maintain precision during maneuvers.

Rear channel release

The channel built into the rear of the bottom generates lift and promotes acceleration. It also broadens the effective stance area, whether you prefer a front-foot or back-foot stance, while making it easier to regain control after the tail slides out.

Refined rails through to the tail

The rails enhance responsiveness and agility. Thicker front rails make paddling easier, while thinner rear rails reduce swing weight for faster rotations.

Domed deck

Smaller sizes have a domed deck, allowing for thinner rails and greater sensitivity underfoot.

Twinz fin setup

Two large fins minimize drag for faster glides, providing excellent hold while making it easy to release the tail. Add a nubster fin for more control and grip in bigger waves.

How the TwinFin 8'3" x 30'' rides

Starboard highlights its progressive acceleration, its ability to draw long arcs on the wave face and how easily its fins can release during maneuvers.

The slight V after the rear channel helps maintain smooth transitions between turns, while its 30-inch width and 125 liters of volume provide a platform suited to surfers looking for a balance of stability and responsiveness.

It’s a particularly appealing option for paddlers looking to progress their dynamic maneuvers without moving straight to a very narrow, specialized surf SUP.

XTEC Carbon construction

The XTEC Carbon construction is designed to combine structural strength, responsiveness and surf performance.

It uses Carbon Load Frame technology, with unidirectional carbon reinforcements strategically positioned to control the board’s flex and improve its ability to return to shape after deformation.

Its design includes:

  • Carbon Load Frame: unidirectional carbon reinforcements to control flex and improve rebound.

  • Expanding epoxy resin: helps bond the materials internally.

  • Twin T-Stringers: structural reinforcements designed to improve break resistance.

  • Wood Omega Stringers: wooden reinforcements integrated into the deck and bottom.

  • Localized reinforcements: extra protection around the standing area, fin boxes, nose, tail and rails.

This construction prioritizes a combination of durability and dynamic response, suited to the repeated demands of surfing.

Who is the Starboard TwinFin 8'3" x 30" for?

The TwinFin is for SUP surfers who are primarily looking for a gliding feel, speed and plenty of freedom in their maneuvers.

It is particularly well suited to:

  • Intermediate surfers: to progress with tight turns, quick changes of direction and their first tail-release maneuvers.

  • Experienced surfers: to enjoy a responsive board that can generate speed in weak waves and link turns smoothly.

  • Fans of small to medium waves: to make the most of conditions in which a more specialized board might lack speed or drive.

The TwinFin complements the Starboard Spice and Pro ranges: it offers a looser feel and easy speed, while the Pro is more focused on control in powerful, critical waves.
